Why can't I find peace?
The Elusive Nature of Peace
Peace is often the elusive goal we strive for, yet it seems to elude us. We may feel like we're searching for a refuge from the strife and struggles of life, but can't seem to find it. This is because our understanding of peace is often superficial, equating it with the absence of fighting or the cessation of hostility. However, true peace goes far beyond this. It's a restored relationship with God, marked by a sense of well-being and His presence. This is the peace that Jesus spoke of, the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
The Source of Peace
So, where can we find this kind of peace? The Bible tells us that it's only found in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. When we turn to Him in faith, we have peace with God and a clear conscience. This is the foundation of true peace, and it's not just a feeling, but a reality. However, this peace is not always easy to find, especially when we're struggling with our own desires and the conflicts that come with following Jesus. As Jesus said, "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword" (Matthew 10:34). This means that we may face conflict and opposition as we seek to follow Him.
The Rule of Peace
So, how can we experience this kind of peace in our lives? The Bible tells us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts (Colossians 3:15). This means that we need to prioritize our relationship with Jesus and let Him guide us in all things. We need to surrender our desires and our will to Him, and trust in His sovereignty and goodness. As we do this, we'll find that peace becomes a reality in our lives, even in the midst of conflict and struggle. It's not a feeling that we can manufacture or achieve through our own efforts, but a gift that we receive through faith in Jesus Christ. And when we experience this kind of peace, we'll be able to say with the Psalmist, "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing praise to you and not be silent" (Psalm 30:11-12).
