The Mystery of Suffering

When we face difficulties and challenges in life, it's natural to wonder why God is allowing them to happen to us. We may feel like we're being tested or punished, and we might even question God's love and sovereignty. But the truth is, God is not making us jump through hoops or testing our faith for His own amusement. He suffered for us so that we could live, and He wants us to know that He loves us and wants to have a relationship with us.

The Sovereignty of God

The doctrine of election tells us that God chose to save us before the foundation of the world, and that He has accomplished and provided for our salvation. But why did He decide to save us? The answer lies in God's sovereign will, which is not bound by our actions or prayers. We may pray for healing or protection, but God's will is not determined by our requests. Instead, He works all things together for our good, even when we don't understand what's happening.

Trust and Obedience

So what can we do when we're facing difficulties and challenges? We can choose to trust God and obey Him, even when we don't understand what's happening. We can recognize that our struggles are opportunities for growth and sanctification, and that God is using them to shape us into the image of Christ. We can also ask ourselves, "What is the final reason why God decided to save me?" Is it because of my own merits or works? No, it's because of God's sovereign will, and because Jesus paid the penalty for my sins. Let's trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and let's seek to know Him more intimately, even in the midst of suffering.
