The Fear of the Unknown

The fear of the unknown can be a significant obstacle to faith. When we face uncertainty, it's natural to feel a sense of fear or apprehension. However, as followers of Jesus, we are called to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when we don't understand what's ahead. In Psalm 57:4-5, we read, "I will cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me. He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame those who trample my life on earth." This passage reminds us that God is in control and that He will fulfill His purpose in our lives, even in the midst of uncertainty.

To overcome the fear of the unknown, we must first acknowledge and confess our fears as unbelief. This means recognizing that our fears are often rooted in a lack of trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. We must then seek to replace our fears with faith in God's promises. As Psalm 119:66 says, "Teach me knowledge and good judgment, for I trust your commands." We must seek to understand God's Word and His character, and to trust in His goodness and love. This requires a willingness to surrender our fears and doubts to God, and to trust in His plan for our lives.

Ultimately, the fear of the unknown can be overcome by trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness. When we face uncertainty, we can pray for peace and guidance, and seek the support of other believers. We can also seek to understand God's character and promises, and to trust in His love and goodness. As Proverbs 9:10 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." By seeking to know and trust God, we can overcome the fear of the unknown and live with confidence and faith in His plan for our lives.
