Understanding God's Goodness in the Midst of Trials

When things seem bad, it's natural to wonder if God is working everything out for our good. The Bible teaches that God is holy love, and that He is the definition and source of all good (Psalm 16:2). When we understand this truth, we can trust that God is always working in our lives, even when we don't see it. This requires faith, which is the supreme effort of our lives, throwing ourselves on God's goodness and love (Romans 12:1-2). When we lack this mental composure, we can become discouraged and lose sight of God's goodness.

Finding Comfort in God's Sovereignty

The Bible teaches that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him, to those who are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28). This means that God is actively working in our lives, even when things seem to be going wrong. His purpose is to conform us to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29). When we trust in God's sovereignty, we can find comfort in the midst of trials. We can say with the psalmist, "You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God, I will exalt you" (Psalm 118:28). This attitude of gratitude and trust helps us to see that God is working everything out for our good, even when we don't see it.

Trusting in God's Goodness

When we face difficulties, it's easy to doubt God's goodness. We may feel like He's not present or that He's not hearing our prayers. But the Bible teaches that God is always present and that He hears our prayers (Psalm 34:17-18). We can trust in His goodness, even when things seem bad. We can say with the psalmist, "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth" (Psalm 34:1). This attitude of trust and praise helps us to see that God is working everything out for our good, even when we don't see it. By trusting in God's sovereignty and goodness, we can find comfort and peace in the midst of trials. We can say with confidence, "God is good, and He is working everything out for my good."
