Biblical Answer

When we experience suffering, it can be tempting to question God's goodness and blessing in our lives. We may wonder, "Why did I have to go through this when I'm supposed to be blessed?" However, as we reflect on the Bible's teachings, we see that blessedness is not necessarily about feeling happy or prosperous all the time. In fact, the Bible teaches that we can be blessed even in the midst of suffering. For example, Jesus told his disciples that they would be blessed if they were persecuted for his name's sake (Matthew 5:10-12). This is because the spirit of glory and of God rests upon those who suffer for Christ's sake (1 Peter 4:14).

The problem often lies in our faulty theology of suffering. We may believe that God only blesses us when we are healthy, wealthy, and happy. However, the Bible teaches that God's blessing is not limited to these things. In fact, the Bible says that we can be blessed even when we are suffering, as long as we are suffering for Christ's sake. This is because God's blessing is not just about our personal happiness, but about our relationship with him. When we suffer for Christ's sake, we are able to experience a deeper level of intimacy with God, and we are able to trust him more fully.

So, why did I have to go through this when I'm supposed to be blessed? Perhaps it's because God is using this suffering to teach me something new about himself and about myself. Maybe it's because God is using this suffering to deepen my relationship with him, and to increase my capacity for joy in all circumstances. Whatever the reason, I can trust that God is good and that he is working all things together for my good (Romans 8:28). And even in the midst of suffering, I can experience the blessing of God's presence and his love. As the Bible says, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me" (Matthew 5:11).
