Balancing Faith with Fear of the Unknown

Step 1: Identify the Fear

Fear is often rooted in unbelief, and the first step in dealing with fear is to confess it as unbelief. Ask yourself, "What am I fearing?" Is it a lack of control, a lack of knowledge, or a lack of trust in God? Whatever the fear may be, it's essential to acknowledge it and recognize that it's not a reflection of God's character.

Step 2: Shift from Fear to Faith

To overcome fear, we need to shift our focus from fear to faith. This involves trusting in God's sovereignty, goodness, and love. As Psalm 56:3 says, "When I am afraid, I will trust in you." Meditate on scriptures that speak about fear, such as Psalms 57:4-5, and learn to trust in God's presence and power. Remember that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17). Listen to preaching and teaching that emphasizes God's love and faithfulness.

Step 3: Build Steadfast Faith

Building steadfast faith requires a deep understanding of God's character and promises. Examine Scripture and be confident in the love and faithfulness of Jesus. Ask someone who is confident in Jesus to give reasons for their confidence. Where is your trust? Is it in people, circumstances, or God? If your trust is invested in anything other than Jesus, fear will persist. However, if you trust in Jesus, you will find courage and faith to face the unknown. As Hebrews 3:14 says, "For we share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence steadfast to the end." Believe steadfastly on Him, and everything that challenges you will strengthen your faith.
