Can our words bring healing to a hurting heart when we're feeling overwhelmed?
We can be with Jesus, and our words can bring healing to a hurting heart when we're feeling overwhelmed. Our words can be a source of healing, but only if they are infused with the love and compassion of Jesus. When we're feeling overwhelmed, it's easy to let our words become hurtful or damaging. But Jesus tells us that if we abide in Him, and His words abide in us, we will ask what we desire, and it shall be done for us (John 15:7). This means that we have the power to choose how we respond to difficult situations, and we can choose to respond with words that bring healing and restoration.
The Bible teaches us that our words have the power to bring healing or inflict damage, like a sword (Proverbs 12:18; 14:25; 15:4). But when we speak words of kindness, compassion, and understanding, we can bring joy to an anxious person (Proverbs 12:25). This is because our words have the power to revive and restore, and they can be a source of comfort and support in times of need. When we're feeling overwhelmed, it's easy to feel like we're not equipped to handle the situation, but Jesus reminds us that He is our strength and our Redeemer (Psalm 19:14). We can ask Him to teach us how to love the way He loves, and to use us as instruments of restoration and healing.
As we learn to trust in Jesus and abide in Him, we can develop a heart that is uncondemning and loving. We can speak words that bring healing and restoration, rather than hurt and damage. This requires us to be willing to confront our own woundedness and need for healing, and to ask God to work in us to bring about transformation and restoration. When we do this, we can become instruments of healing and restoration, and our words can bring comfort and support to those who are hurting. We can say with the Psalmist, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer" (Psalm 19:14). When we speak words of love and compassion, we can bring healing to a hurting heart, and we can reflect the love and healing power of Jesus.
