The Bible's Teaching on Wealth and God's Sovereignty

The Bible teaches that God has all the resources in the world, and He doesn't need our money. However, when we properly offer our money to God, we magnify Him, which is worshipping Him. This is evident in the life of Jesus Christ, who, although He was rich, became poor for our sake, so that we through His poverty might become rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). This mindset should be in us, just as it was in Christ Jesus. We should not run after wealth or distinction, but rather seek to honour God, who gives riches and honour to whom He pleases (1 Chronicles 29:12).

Honouring God with Our Wealth

Honouring God with our wealth involves not wanting to give wealth an inordinate place in our desires, so that truly honouring God would entail keeping our life free from the love of money. This means that we should not set our hearts on accumulating wealth, but rather on seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33). When we do this, God honours our faith, and we may not grow wealthy as the world understands riches, but we will not lack. The Bible teaches that it is not the amount of wealth we have, but how we use it, that matters. We should use our wealth to spread God's kingdom and to help those in need, rather than accumulating it for ourselves.

God's Sovereignty over Wealth

God has given the wealth and has decided where it is distributed; He is the cause of individual prosperity or poverty (Proverbs 22:2). We should not idolize wealth or become proud of our possessions, but rather recognize that God is the one who gives us everything we have. As Jesus taught, it is not the things we have that make us rich, but rather our relationship with God (Matthew 19:21). When we understand God's sovereignty over wealth, we can trust Him to meet our needs, and we can use our wealth to honour Him and to help others. Ultimately, our wealth is not our own, but belongs to God, and we should use it to bring glory to Him.
