The Myth of Testing by God

The idea that God tests us through pain is a myth. This myth is based on a misunderstanding of God's character and sovereignty. God is not testing us to see if we will obey Him, but rather to see if we will trust Him. When we face pain and suffering, we tend to assume that God is making us jump through hoops to prove our faith. However, this is not the case. God is not a divine ego-tripper who asks us to believe in Him because He wants to see if we will obey. He is the One Who suffered for us so that we could live. He is the One Who takes care of us and provides for our needs.

The Sovereignty of God

God is sovereign over all things, including pain and suffering. He is not caught off guard by our circumstances, but rather He is the One Who ordains them. When we face pain and suffering, we can trust that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). This does not mean that we will always understand why we are going through a particular trial, but it means that we can trust that God is working in our lives to bring about His purposes. We do not have to assume that God is testing us, but rather we can trust that He is working to bring about our good.

The Importance of Trust

When we face pain and suffering, we have a choice to make. We can either trust God and His sovereignty, or we can doubt and question Him. When we doubt and question God, we are essentially setting up an implicit test for Him. We are saying, "If God is really good and loving, then He will give me what I want." However, this is not the way of faith. Faith is trusting God even when we do not understand. Faith is trusting God when He does not give us what we want. When we trust God, we are able to walk through pain and suffering with confidence, knowing that He is working all things together for our good. We do not have to assume that God is testing us, but rather we can trust that He is working in our lives to bring about His purposes.
