Modeling a Heart of Obedience

As parents, we are called to model a heart of obedience to our children. This means that we demonstrate a willingness to follow God's leading and teachings, even when it's difficult. By doing so, we create a culture in our home where obedience is valued and sought after. Our children learn by observing us, so it's essential to make sure we're living out what we want them to learn. This doesn't mean we're perfect, but it means we're intentional about following God's commands and teachings.

This means we're not just imparting knowledge to them, but we're also seeking to shape their hearts to love and follow God. Instruction teaches them the ways of God and helps them understand His commands. Creating a heart of obedience in our children requires patience, persistence, and a willingness to use the tools of discipline, instruction, and encouragement. We must also model a heart of obedience ourselves, as our children learn by observing us. By doing so, we can help our children develop a genuine desire to obey God and follow His commands. As King Solomon wrote, "My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments" (Proverbs 3:1 nasb). This is our goal as parents: to raise children who genuinely love and follow God, and who have a heart of obedience that will serve them well throughout their lives.
