Why did I lose my business?
From a biblical perspective, losing a business can be a result of various factors, but ultimately, it is often a consequence of not living out Christian values and teachings. One of the reasons a business may lose its integrity is by engaging in unscrupulous practices such as price gouging, making inferior products, and planned obsolescence. These actions can lead to a loss of trust among customers and ultimately harm the business. In contrast, a business that operates with integrity, honesty, and transparency is more likely to succeed and maintain its customer base.
However, even with a strong commitment to integrity, businesses can still face challenges and setbacks. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all creation, including the business world. Sometimes, even with the best intentions and efforts, businesses may still face financial difficulties or other challenges that can lead to a loss of business. In the case of Liberty University, for example, the school faced financial difficulties in the past, but with the guidance of a judge and the supervision of local men, the university was able to recover and grow stronger. This experience demonstrates that even in difficult circumstances, God can bring victory and restoration.
In my personal experience, I made some terrible financial decisions early in my ministry that almost put Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University out of business. However, God was gracious and gave us the victory for which we prayed. This experience taught me the importance of humility and trusting in God's sovereignty, even in the midst of challenges and setbacks. Ultimately, losing a business can be a opportunity for growth, reflection, and trust in God's plan. As the Apostle Paul wrote, "But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him" (Philippians 3:7-8). This passage reminds us that even in the midst of loss, we can find gain in our relationship with Christ.
