What's the point of fighting when I'm just going to lose anyway?
The Importance of Fighting in Spiritual Warfare
Fighting is a crucial aspect of spiritual warfare. When we say that fighting is necessary, we're not talking about physical combat, but rather spiritual battles that we face in our minds and hearts. The Bible tells us that the battle for our lives is fought and won in our minds (2 Cor. 10:3-5). This means that we must take control of our minds, through the power of the Holy Spirit, to engage in spiritual combat and emerge victorious.
Why Fighting is Necessary
The reason we need to fight is that there's a resistance in our hearts that's abetted by dark powers. This resistance can lead us to give up and lose the battle for our minds. When we don't fight, we're not willing to engage in spiritual battle and settle the matter once and for all with God. Instead, we try to avoid the fight or deny its existence. However, this only leads to defeat and a life of spiritual stagnation. On the other hand, when we decide to fight, we're not just fighting for victory, but also for our relationship with Christ. We're fighting to stay connected to Him and to experience the nikos (victory) that He gives us through His accomplished work on the cross.
The Promise of Victory
Despite the challenges and obstacles we face, we can be confident in the promise of victory. Jesus gives us the nikos, which is the defeat of sin and the establishment of a beachhead of victory in our lives. From this foundation of victory, we can now fight and emerge victorious. We don't fight alone, but with the help of other believers and the power of the Holy Spirit. Our battle isn't won because our circumstances change, but because we're connected to Christ and His victory. We must decide right now to change the story of our lives and engage in spiritual combat, knowing that we have the power of the finished work of Jesus on our side. By doing so, we can overcome any obstacle and emerge victorious in the end.
