Your Question:

Is this really the only way to get ahead in life?

Answer:

As I reflect on my own life, I realize that I've been living by a certain set of rules, a "Rule of Life" if you will. It's a combination of my morning routine, my work as a pastor, my family life, and my hobbies like playing chess and reading science fiction novels. But is this really the only way to get ahead in life? I'm not so sure. I've been doing things a certain way for so long, but I've been wondering if there's a better way, a way that's more in line with God's plan for me.

I think about my son Joshua and daughter Rebecca, and I want to make sure I'm setting a good example for them. I want to show them that there's more to life than just getting ahead and achieving success. I want to teach them about living a life of purpose and meaning, a life that's centered on God. But how do I do that? I'm not sure I have all the answers, but I know I need to be intentional about living out my faith in a way that's authentic and meaningful.

I think about the Bible's teaching on living a life of simplicity and trust in God. Jesus said, "Come and see" - come and live the Way with me for a while, and see whether life together in the kingdom of love is not far better than any other kingdom. That's a pretty radical idea, but it's one that I'm drawn to. I want to live a life that's not just about getting ahead, but about living for something greater than myself. I want to live a life that's marked by trust, simplicity, and a deep dependence on God.
