What if I can't afford to live?
Living a Life of Faith and Finances
When we think about not being able to afford to live, we often focus on the material aspects of life. We worry about paying bills, affording food and shelter, and meeting our basic needs. However, as Christians, we are called to live a life of faith, trusting in God's provision and sovereignty over our lives. This means that we must re-evaluate our priorities and values, recognizing that true wealth and prosperity come from a right relationship with God, not from material possessions.
The Bible teaches us that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). When we give generously to God and to others, we open ourselves up to His provision and blessing. This is not about being selfish or not, but about trusting in God's goodness and provision. As the apostle Paul wrote, "I can be so rich in my own poverty, or in the awareness of the fact that I am nobody, that I will never be a disciple of Jesus. Or I can be so rich in the awareness that I am somebody that will never be a disciple" (2 Corinthians 6:10). We must be willing to let go of our own desires and ambitions and trust in God's plan for our lives.
In the face of financial uncertainty, we must remember that God is our Provider and Sustainer. He promises to meet our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). When we trust in Him, we can joyfully waive our rights and allow Him to make our choices for us. As Jesus said, "I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). This is not about living a life of poverty or destitution, but about living a life of faith and trust in God's goodness and provision. By doing so, we can experience true wealth and prosperity, not just in material possessions, but in our relationship with God and with others.
