Can I really trust the doctor?

The trust we place in our doctors is a remarkable thing. It is a faith that is not unlike the faith we place in God. When we go to the doctor, we are placing our trust in their diagnosis, their prescription, and their treatment plan. We are trusting that they have the knowledge and expertise to help us heal. But can we really trust the doctor? Is it not possible that they may misdiagnose our condition, or prescribe the wrong medication? The answer is yes, it is possible. Doctors are human beings, subject to the same frailties and limitations as the rest of us. They can make mistakes.

But, as the Bible teaches us, "without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6). And faith is not just about trusting in God, it is also about trusting in those who are serving Him. In this case, the doctor is serving God by using their skills and knowledge to help us heal. When we place our trust in the doctor, we are, in effect, placing our trust in God. As the Psalmist writes, "I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation" (Psalm 13:5). This is not to say that we should blindly trust the doctor, but rather that we should trust in the God who is working through them.

The Bible also teaches us that we should "test everything; hold fast to what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21). This means that we should be discerning and cautious when it comes to trusting the doctor. We should seek a second opinion, and we should be willing to question their diagnosis or treatment plan if we feel that it is not in line with God's will. Ultimately, our trust should be in God, not just in the doctor. As the Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). By placing our trust in God, we can be confident that He will work through the doctor to bring us healing and restoration.
