Your Question:

How do we prioritize love when the world is against us?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with prioritizing love in the face of opposition. The world often tells us to love everyone equally, but the Bible teaches us that our love for God must come first. In fact, Jesus said that the greatest love is to lay down one's life for one's friends (John 15:13). This means that our love for others must be willing to make sacrifices, even if it's difficult or costly.

When conflicts arise between our love for God, others, and ourselves, we must prioritize our love for God. This doesn't mean we don't love our neighbors or family members, but rather that our love for God is the foundation upon which all other loves are built. As the Bible says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37). This love for God is what gives us the strength and courage to love others, even when it's hard.

In my own life, I've learned that prioritizing love for God has helped me to love my family more deeply. My wife Susan and I have been married for 19 years, and our children Joshua and Rebecca are growing up to be wonderful young people. By putting God first, I've been able to model a love for Him that has inspired my family to do the same. And when the world gets tough, I remind myself that my love for God is what gives me the strength to love others, even when it's hard.
