Forgiveness is a crucial aspect of our lives, and it's essential to understand that it's not about paying back those who have wronged us, but rather about releasing the hold they have on us. When we confront people who have betrayed us, we often do so as a way of getting revenge, but this approach can be deadly. It's a sign of a superior attitude, which makes it hard to forgive. As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with forgiveness, and it's only when they let go of their hatred and choose to forgive that they can break free from the prison of unforgiveness.

Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting what happened, but it means not holding the person's sin against them. It's a process that requires humility and a willingness to let go of our pride. When we forgive, we're not saying that the other person was right, but rather that we're choosing to release the anger and resentment that's been holding us back. This is liberating, not only for the person who was wronged but also for the person who did the wrong. As the Bible says, "Bind up his wounds" (Psalm 147:3), and "Restore his soul" (Psalm 23:3).

As a father and a pastor, I've learned that forgiveness is essential for healing and rebuilding relationships. When we apologize to those we've hurt, we demonstrate our commitment to living under the authority of Jesus. This doesn't mean that the other person will automatically forgive us, but it shows that we're willing to take responsibility for our actions and seek forgiveness. Forgiveness is a process that requires effort and commitment, but it's essential for breaking free from the chains of unforgiveness and living a life of freedom and joy.
