Your Question:

How can I keep hope when everything's been taken away?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with hopelessness, especially when their dreams and expectations are shattered. It's natural to feel that way, but I've come to realize that hope is a fundamental part of the human experience. Even in the midst of disappointment and despair, there's always a glimmer of hope that can sustain us. As the Bible says, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" (Proverbs 13:12), but it's also true that "those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength" (Isaiah 40:31).

For me, hope is not just a feeling, but a choice. As a Christian, I believe that God is in control and that He has a plan for my life, even when things don't go as I expected. I've learned to trust in His goodness and sovereignty, even when my circumstances seem bleak. This doesn't mean that I don't feel pain or disappointment, but it does mean that I can face the future with confidence and hope. As I look back on my 19 years of marriage to Susan, I've seen that even in the tough times, our love and commitment to each other have sustained us, and I know that God has been at work in our lives.

As a father of two teenagers, Joshua and Rebecca, I've also seen how hope can be a powerful force in their lives. Even when they face setbacks and disappointments, they can choose to hold onto hope and trust that God is working everything out for their good. As I look to the future, I know that there will be challenges and uncertainties, but I'm choosing to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and to hold onto hope, even when things seem impossible.
