Understanding God's Sovereignty

The question of why God allowed you to get into a relationship with a bad person can be understood in the context of God's sovereignty. As the Bible teaches, God is the Creator and sustainer of the universe, and He governs all things according to His perfect will (Psalm 103:19). This includes the lives of individuals, including those who may be involved in sinful or hurtful relationships. While God is not the author of evil, He does allow it to occur in order to bring about greater good (Genesis 50:20). In this sense, God's sovereignty is not about forcing people to do His will, but rather about guiding and directing the course of events to achieve His ultimate purposes.

The Role of Human Freedom

The Bible also teaches that human beings have the freedom to choose their own actions and decisions. This freedom is a gift from God, but it also means that individuals can choose to sin and harm others. In the case of a bad relationship, the person involved may have made choices that led to harm or hurt. While God may have allowed the relationship to occur, He is not responsible for the choices made by individuals. Instead, God is working to bring about redemption and restoration, even in the midst of difficult circumstances (Romans 8:28).

The Importance of Forgiveness and Trust

In the context of a bad relationship, forgiveness and trust are essential components of healing and restoration. While it may be difficult to forgive the person involved, the Bible teaches that forgiveness is not about condoning or excusing their behavior, but rather about releasing the hurt and anger that can come from it (Matthew 6:14-15). Trusting God in the midst of difficult circumstances requires faith and surrender, but it also allows us to experience His love and redemption in a deeper way (Psalm 23:4). Ultimately, God's sovereignty and love are not about avoiding difficult circumstances, but about bringing about redemption and restoration in the midst of them.
