Can I lose God's forgiveness?

The Bible teaches that God's forgiveness is unconditional and secure. In 1 John 1:7, it says, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." This verse assures us that no matter what we have done, God will forgive us. However, forgiveness is not just about feeling forgiven, but also about experiencing the freedom that comes with forgiveness. To truly experience this freedom, we must not only confess our sins to God but also make amends with those we have hurt. This is where the concept of forgiveness comes in.

Forgiveness is not just about feeling forgiven, but also about releasing the wrong that has been done against us. When we choose not to forgive, we become imprisoned by our anger and resentment. This can lead to bitterness and a hardened heart, which can interrupt our relationship with God. In Isaiah 59:1-2, it says, "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he does not hear." This verse shows that sin can interrupt our relationship with God, but forgiveness can restore it.

To truly experience forgiveness, we must not only confess our sins to God but also make amends with those we have hurt. This is where the concept of restitution comes in. Restitution is about taking responsibility for our actions and making things right with those we have hurt. This is not about earning forgiveness, but about demonstrating our commitment to living a life that reflects God's values. In Matthew 5:23-24, it says, "So if you are presenting your offering at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering." This verse shows that forgiveness is not just about our relationship with God, but also about our relationships with others. By choosing to forgive and make amends, we can experience the freedom that comes with forgiveness and deepen our relationship with God.
