Understanding Purpose and Faith

In a world where work and purpose are often closely tied, it's natural to wonder if having a sense of purpose is still possible without being able to work. The Bible teaches us that our purpose is to glorify God and enjoy Him (Psalm 16:11), but it also acknowledges that our circumstances, including our ability to work, can impact our ability to fulfill this purpose. As the psalmist says, "I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord!' But now you have made me outcast; you have shortened my days" (Psalm 119:54-55). This psalm highlights the reality that our circumstances, including our ability to work, can affect our ability to worship and serve God.

Finding Purpose in Christ

In Jesus Christ, we find our true purpose and identity. As the apostle Paul writes, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is not in our work or abilities, but in being a child of God and serving Him. This means that even if we are unable to work, we can still find purpose and meaning in our relationship with Christ. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). Our purpose is not tied to our circumstances, but to our relationship with God.

Embracing God's Sovereignty

Ultimately, our purpose is not something we can achieve on our own, but is a gift from God. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope" (Jeremiah 29:11). God's sovereignty over our lives means that even in difficult circumstances, He is working everything out for our good. This means that we can trust in Him, even when we are unable to work, and find purpose and meaning in our relationship with Him. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). Our purpose is not something we can achieve on our own, but is a gift from God, and we can trust in Him to guide us and give us purpose, even in difficult circumstances.
