The Reality of Judgment

Christians are often accused of judging others, but is that what Jesus meant when He said that we shouldnt judge? No. Examining the verse in its context will give us a better picture of what Jesus was trying to say. In Matthew 7:1-6, Jesus warns against judging others, not because we should never evaluate or assess the behavior of others, but because we shouldnt do so with a critical or condemning spirit. When we judge others, we are not simply evaluating their actions, we are making a moral judgment about them. Jesus is saying that we shouldnt make moral judgments about others, because we are all equally guilty before God.

The Importance of Wisdom

While the Bible doesn't have a verse that specifically prohibits tattoos, it does give us guidelines for how to live wisely. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Paul writes, "You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies." This verse reminds us that our bodies are not our own, but belong to God. We should use our bodies in a way that honors God, and that means being mindful of how our choices affect others. Getting a tattoo is not inherently wrong, but it can be a way of expressing ourselves that may not be wise or honoring to God. We should consider whether getting a tattoo will lead us to glorify God or not.

The Danger of Idolatry

When we get a tattoo, we are making a choice about how we want to express ourselves, but we should also consider the potential for idolatry. When we get a tattoo, we are putting a physical mark on our body that can become a source of pride or self-identification. This can lead to idolatry, where we begin to rely on our physical appearance or our possessions to define us, rather than our relationship with God. We should be careful not to make our tattoos or any other physical marks a source of pride or self-identification, but rather use them as a way to glorify God and honor Him with our bodies. Ultimately, the decision to get a tattoo is a personal one, but we should make it with wisdom and consideration for how it may affect our relationship with God.
