The Fears of Mortality

The Bible speaks to the fears of mortality, addressing the question of whether this is really how our life ends. In the face of death, we may feel a sense of despair and hopelessness, wondering if this is all there is to life. The apostle Paul, in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, writes, "Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." The Purpose of Life

In Psalm 119:73, David writes, "Your hands have made me and formed me; give me understanding to lead me, to show me the way of your laws." You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." This passage reminds us that our life continues beyond death, and that we will be with God in heaven for eternity. This hope gives us the strength to face the challenges of life, and to live our lives with purpose and meaning. As the Bible teaches us, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). This is the hope that we have in the face of mortality, and it is the hope that gives our life meaning and purpose.
