The Trust in Material Security

In today's world, it is easy to get caught up in the idea that our material security, including our health insurance, is the ultimate source of trust. However, as we see in the story of the woman who waited until January 2 to file her insurance claim, trusting in material security can lead to uncertainty and anxiety. She had to wait until the deductible was reset to avoid paying it twice, and even then, she was unsure about the outcome. This experience highlights the limitations of trusting in material security, which can be unpredictable and unreliable.

The Sovereignty of God

As Christians, we are called to trust in the sovereignty of God, not in material security. God is the One who created the universe and governs all its workings, including the health insurance system. He is the One who provides for our needs, not our material possessions or insurance policies. When we trust in God, we can have peace and confidence, even in the midst of uncertainty. The Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). This means that we should trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, rather than in our own understanding or material possessions.

A Personal Relationship with God

Ultimately, trusting in material security is a substitute for a personal relationship with God. When we trust in our insurance policies, we are putting our trust in something that is temporal and fleeting. But when we trust in God, we are putting our trust in the eternal and unchanging. A personal relationship with God brings us peace, joy, and confidence, even in the midst of uncertainty. As the Bible says, "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33). By trusting in God, we can have peace and confidence, even when our insurance policies fail us. We can trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and know that He will provide for our needs, even when our material security is uncertain.
