Can I Still Trust God When Everything Feels Like a Nightmare?

The Bible reminds us that God is sovereign over all creation and that He will not let us be tested more than we can stand (1 Cor. 10:13). When we feel overwhelmed and hopeless, it's easy to question God's goodness and love. However, it's essential to remember that God has suffered on account of evil, and His love for us is not diminished by the presence of suffering. In fact, His love is what sustains us through the darkest of times.

To trust God in the midst of a nightmare, we must first acknowledge our limitations and surrender our control to Him. We can't always understand why God allows evil to exist, but we can trust that He is working everything out for our good (Rom. 8:28). This doesn't mean we stop trying or giving up, but rather, we trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't see it. As Job said, "I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God" (Job 19:25-26). We can trust God's wisdom, even when we don't understand it.

Ultimately, trusting God in the midst of a nightmare requires faith, which is not a weak or pitiful emotion but a strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. When we trust Him, we're not just trusting His actions, but His character. We're trusting that He is good, loving, and sovereign, even when things don't make sense. As the psalmist said, "I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation" (Ps. 13:5). We can trust God, even when everything feels like a nightmare, because He is our Rock, our Refuge, and our Redeemer. He is the One who will see us through the darkest of times and bring us to a place of hope and joy.
