A SERIES OF SMALLER DOORS

What might the Way Out sign look like for you? Well, the most effective way you can avoid sin is to not walk through the door marked Temptation in the first place. The main door in our passage is the door to salvation, the door to eternal life. But there are many smaller doors that lead away from this main door. These smaller doors are often marked with temptations such as greed, lust, pride, and anger. Jesus warns us that many will try to enter through the narrow door, but will not be able to. He is not talking about the main door to salvation, but about these smaller doors that lead to sin. When we try to open these smaller doors, we are not just trying to satisfy our desires, we are actually trying to shut the door to salvation.

The problem is that we often think we can control these smaller doors. We think we can open them and then close them at will. But Jesus says that once we open the door to sin, it can be difficult to close it. He says that out of the mouth of the one who sins pours out a stream of sin. This means that when we start down the path of sin, it can be hard to stop. We can get caught up in a cycle of sin and it can be hard to break free. But Jesus is saying that we have the power to shut the door to sin in the first place. We can deliberately choose not to walk through the smaller doors that lead to temptation. We can choose to keep the door to salvation open and to walk through it instead.

So how do we keep going when every door is slammed shut? We keep going by shutting our own doors. We shut the door to sin by choosing not to walk through the smaller doors that lead to temptation. We keep the door to salvation open by deliberately choosing to follow God's will. We can do this by having a regular time of prayer and Bible study, by surrounding ourselves with people who will encourage us to follow God, and by being mindful of our thoughts and actions. We can shut our own doors by choosing to follow God's path, even when it's difficult. We can keep going by keeping the door to salvation open and by shutting the door to sin. In this way, we can live a life that reflects God's will and we can find peace and joy in following Him.
