Understanding God's Sovereignty

The question of why God took away your only child is a deeply personal and emotional issue. It's natural to seek answers and explanations for such a painful experience. However, the Bible teaches that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). God is sovereign over all creation, and His decisions are not bound by human understanding or expectations. As the Psalmist says, "The Lord has done it this way; the Lord has done it this way for my own benefit" (Psalm 119:57).

The Problem of Sin and Suffering

The Bible teaches that sin and suffering are a result of humanity's rebellion against God. When we disobey God's laws and principles, we open ourselves up to suffering and hardship. This is not to say that God causes suffering, but rather that He allows it as a consequence of human sin. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23). In the case of a child's death, it's possible that the child's life was cut short due to sin or rebellion in their life or in the lives of those around them.

Finding Comfort in God's Love

While we may not have all the answers, we can find comfort in God's love and sovereignty. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). Even in the midst of suffering and loss, God is working out His good purposes. As a parent, it's essential to point your child to God's love and sovereignty, even in the face of uncertainty and pain. By doing so, you can help your child develop a deeper trust in God's goodness and faithfulness, even when life doesn't make sense. Ultimately, God's love and sovereignty are the only constants in a world filled with uncertainty and pain.
