Can I Really Trust God to Provide When I'm in This Much Debt?

The idea that God owes us a debt of provision, and that we can pray for financial blessings because of a supposed "debt" that God owes us, is a misconception. Anselm, a medieval theologian, noted that God is both the justifier of those who trust in him and the one who demands justice for sin. This means that God demands the debt of sin to be paid, but also provides a way for that debt to be satisfied through the blood of Christ.

However, this idea of God owing us a debt of provision is not biblical. The Bible teaches that God's provision is a gift, not a payment due to us. In Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus teaches that we should not worry about our physical needs, but rather trust in God's provision. This is because God is our Father, and He loves to give good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11). Our debt of sin is the only debt that cannot be paid by us, and it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we can be forgiven and have our debt satisfied.

So, can we trust God to provide when we're in debt? The answer is yes, but not because God owes us a debt of provision. Rather, we can trust God to provide because He is our loving Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children. We can pray for financial blessings, not because we deserve them, but because God is a God of abundance and generosity. We can trust that He will provide for our needs, not because we have a right to expect it, but because He loves us and wants to bless us. As the Bible says, "God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may be rich in every way for all generosity" (2 Corinthians 9:8).
