Understanding True Affordability

When we say "I can't afford food," what we often mean is that we can't afford to give up some of our other priorities or comforts in order to make space for generosity and obedience to God's commands. In the Bible, Jesus teaches that our priorities should be in line with God's, and that we should not be consumed by our desires for material possessions and fleeting pleasures (Matthew 6:24). If we are truly committed to following Jesus, we must be willing to make sacrifices and adjustments in our lives to align with His will.

The True Cost of Greed

The desire for stuff and the pursuit of material wealth can never be fully satisfied, and it can actually lead to a life of poverty and emptiness (Proverbs 23:5). When we prioritize our own desires and comforts above all else, we are being greedy and selfish. As Jesus teaches, if we are consuming to the point of having little or nothing left to give, we are being greedy (Luke 12:15). In contrast, when we prioritize generosity and obedience to God's commands, we find true satisfaction and fulfillment. We must be willing to let go of our attachment to material possessions and desires, and instead seek to live a life that is pleasing to God.

Finding True Abundance

When we prioritize our relationship with God and our obedience to His commands, we find true abundance and satisfaction. As Psalm 37:3-4 says, "Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When we trust in God and seek to please Him, He provides for our needs and gives us the desires of our heart. We must be willing to let go of our attachment to material possessions and desires, and instead seek to live a life that is pleasing to God. This is the key to finding true abundance and satisfaction in life. We must trust in God's provision and care for us, and seek to live a life that is pleasing to Him. When we do, we will find that we are truly able to afford the things that matter most, including food, shelter, and relationships. By prioritizing our relationship with God and our obedience to His commands, we can find true abundance and satisfaction in life.
