Why does God let bad things happen to innocent people?

The question of why God allows evil to happen to innocent people is a complex and difficult one. The Bible teaches that sin brings spiritual consequences, including death and separation from God (Romans 3:23). However, this does not fully explain why bad things happen to innocent people. The Bible also teaches that God created humans with a liberty of acting, which means that humans have the ability to make choices and act in ways that are not necessarily good or evil (Genesis 1:26-28).

The fact that many bad things happen as a result of human sin is evident. The Bible teaches that suffering arises, in part, from human disobedience and sin (Romans 1:18-20). However, this does not mean that God is unjust or that He is not good. The Bible teaches that God will ultimately bring about justice and righteousness, and that He will punish evil and reward good (Revelation 20:12-15). However, in this life, we must be content to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we do not understand why bad things happen to innocent people. We must also remember that God is not the author of evil, but rather, He is the one who brings about good through the willing actions of moral creatures (Genesis 50:20). Ultimately, our trust in God's goodness and sovereignty must be greater than our understanding of why bad things happen to innocent people.
