Understanding the Feeling of Abandonment

The feeling of being abandoned by God is a common experience that can be overwhelming and disorienting. When we feel abandoned, we often wonder if God has forgotten us or if we are no longer important to Him. However, this feeling is often a reflection of our own hearts and circumstances, rather than a true indication of God's presence or absence. According to the Bible, when we feel abandoned, it may be because we have not surrendered to God's sovereignty and have instead chosen to trust in our own abilities and resources (Psalm 55:22).

The Root Causes of Feeling Abandoned

There are several root causes that can contribute to the feeling of being abandoned by God. One of the main causes is our tendency to focus on our circumstances and our own strengths rather than trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty. When we are preoccupied with our own problems and struggles, we can become isolated and disconnected from God's presence. Additionally, when we are prone to self-pity and self-centeredness, we can become susceptible to feelings of abandonment. This can also be the case when we are struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues that can cloud our perception of God's presence.

Breaking Free from Feelings of Abandonment

To break free from feelings of abandonment, we need to surrender to God's sovereignty and trust in His goodness and love. We need to acknowledge that our feelings can lie and that God's presence is not determined by our circumstances. We need to seek God's face and ask Him to reveal Himself to us, even when we feel like He is distant or unresponsive. We need to recognize the things that are keeping us from faith in God and be willing to surrender them to Him. As the Bible says, "Come near to God and He will come near to you" (James 4:8). When we surrender to God and trust in His goodness and sovereignty, we can experience a deep sense of peace and connection with Him, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
