Biblical Answer

To live in obedience to God's will, rather than just living by our own standards, we must first recognize that obedience is not just about doing good actions, but about submitting our will to God's. This means we must be willing to surrender ourselves completely to God, abandoning our own desires and interests for His. As Jesus said, "If anyone wants to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24). This is not just about doing what we think is right, but about submitting to God's perfect law and allowing our conscience to direct us towards obedience.

One of the biggest obstacles to obedience is our tendency to rely on our own understanding and insights, rather than seeking God's guidance. When we try to figure things out on our own, we can easily become mired in our own opinions and biases, leading us to disobey God's will. Instead, we must learn to seek God's wisdom and guidance, even when it means abandoning our own plans and desires. As the Bible says, "Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will" (Romans 12:2).

Ultimately, obedience to God's will requires a deep and abiding trust in His sovereignty and goodness. When we truly believe that God's ways are best, even when they don't make sense to us, we will be more willing to surrender ourselves to His will. As the psalmist said, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). When we walk in the light of God's Word, we will be more likely to obey His will, rather than following our own standards. By seeking God's guidance and surrendering ourselves to His will, we can live in obedience to God's will, rather than just living by our own standards.
