The Question of Worthy Love

When we struggle with feelings of unworthiness, we often wonder if we are still worthy of love. This question can be especially daunting in relationships, where we may feel that our partner no longer loves us or that we no longer love them. However, the Bible teaches us that love is not based on feelings, but on actions and commitment. Jesus commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind.

The Bible's Perspective on Love

The Bible shows us that love is not a feeling, but a choice. We are called to love God and others, even when we don't feel like it. This means that we must put our faith and trust in God, and in the people we love, even when we don't see the benefits of our love. We are not guaranteed to feel loved in return, but we are called to love anyway. As Jesus said, "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you" (Luke 6:27-28). This kind of love is not based on feelings, but on our commitment to God and to others.

Finding Worthy Love

So how can we know if we are still worthy of love? The answer is not to look at our feelings, but to look at our actions. Are we loving others, even when it's hard? Are we putting our trust in God and in the people we love? Are we showing kindness, compassion, and patience to those around us? If we can answer "yes" to these questions, then we can know that we are worthy of love, not because of our feelings, but because of our commitment to God and to others. As the Bible says, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres" (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). This is the kind of love that makes us worthy of love, and it is a love that we can choose to have, regardless of our feelings.
