Biblical Answer

The concept of resting in the Lord when feeling overwhelmed is a crucial aspect of Christian living. The Bible encourages believers to rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him, as stated in Psalm 37:7-8. However, it can be challenging to put this into practice, especially when faced with difficult circumstances. The Bible warns against fretting, which only causes harm (Psalm 37:7). Instead, we are encouraged to entrust our problems to the Lord and leave them in His hands.

Resting in the Lord requires us to acknowledge our dependence on Him and to trust in His sovereignty. We must recognize that our strength and power come from Him, and that we are not alone in our struggles. As the prophet Isaiah writes, "You have no right to complain, O Lord, I am so exhausted. He saved and sanctified you to exhaust you. Be exhausted for God, but remember that He is your Source of power" (Isaiah 40:29). This means that we must be willing to surrender our will and our desires to God's plan, even when we don't understand what is happening. By doing so, we can find rest and peace in His presence.

The Bible also reminds us that rest is essential to our spiritual journey. Jesus offers Himself as the source of comfort and rest, saying, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). This means that we can find rest and peace in Jesus, even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances. By turning to Him and trusting in His power, we can experience the joy and satisfaction that comes from knowing that we are not alone, and that God is working everything out for our good. As the Psalmist writes, "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised" (Job 1:21). In the midst of difficulty, we can choose to praise God and trust in His goodness, even when we don't understand what is happening. This is the essence of resting in the Lord.
