The desire for safety and the call to take risks for God can seem like opposing forces. On one hand, we want to be safe and secure, protected from harm and danger. On the other hand, we are called to take risks and trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when the outcome is uncertain. In order to reconcile these two desires, we must first understand that true safety and security come from trusting in God, not from seeking protection through our own efforts or alliances. As the psalmist says, "In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (Psalm 56:11). This trust is not just about being safe from physical harm, but about having a deep sense of peace and security, knowing that we are in God's hands and that He has a plan for our lives.

When we seek to take risks for God, we must do so with a clear understanding of His character and goodness. We must know that He is a loving and compassionate God who desires our good, even when we face difficult circumstances. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This does not mean that we will never face danger or hardship, but it means that we can trust that God is working everything out for our good, even when we don't understand what is happening. We must also be careful not to speak of evil events as happening according to God's will, lest we give the impression that He takes pleasure in evil. Rather, we must see that even in the midst of suffering, God is working to bring about good and to bring people to Himself.

Ultimately, the key to reconciling our desire for safety with the call to take risks for God is to trust in His sovereignty and goodness. We must know that He is in control, even when things don't make sense to us. We must trust that He has a plan for our lives, and that He will bring good out of even the most difficult circumstances. As the Bible says, "And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast" (1 Peter 5:10). By trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty, we can take risks for Him, even when the outcome is uncertain, knowing that He will work everything out for our good.
