The Call to Help Others

Jesus taught us that helping others is a fundamental aspect of living out our faith. In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus says that when we help others, we are helping him. He explains that when we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, and visit the sick or imprisoned, we are doing it for him. This is because Jesus identifies with the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed. He commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31), which means that we should be willing to sacrifice our own interests for the benefit of others.

The Importance of Sacrificial Giving

Jesus teaches that helping others is not just about providing basic support or resources, but about sacrificial giving. In Acts 20:35, he says that it is more blessed to give than to receive. This means that we should not only be willing to share our resources with others, but we should also be willing to lay down our lives for the benefit of others. Jesus himself laid down his life for us, and we should be willing to do the same for others. This is not just about being good managers of God's resources, but about being sacrificial givers who are willing to put the needs of others before our own.

The Promise of Help from Jesus

Jesus promises to help us as we help others. In John 14:26, he says that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things and bring to our remembrance all that he has said. This means that we can trust in Jesus' promise to help us as we seek to help others. We don't have to be experts or have all the answers. Jesus promises to give us the wisdom and guidance we need to serve others effectively. He also promises to care for us in the same way that he has cared for us. This means that we can approach our service to others with confidence and trust in Jesus' promise to help us.
