Why does God allow this to happen to me and not someone else?

It is a question that has puzzled many, and one that can be a source of great pain and frustration. However, as Christians, we must remember that God is not capricious or arbitrary in His dealings with us. He is a God of love and sovereignty, who works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). The Bible teaches us that God grants us an area of autonomy, allowing us to accept or reject Him (John 1:12). This desire to turn away from God somehow arises out of that autonomy, and it is not always easy to understand why God allows certain things to happen to us.

The doctrine of election teaches us that God chose to save us because of His own sovereign will, not because of anything we have done (Romans 9:11). However, this does not mean that God is uninvolved in our lives or that He is not concerned with our well-being. On the contrary, God is actively working in our lives, even when we do not understand what is happening (Proverbs 3:5-6). His ultimate goal is to draw us into a right-standing relationship with Himself, and to conform us to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).

In the midst of suffering and uncertainty, it is easy to feel like we are being treated unfairly or that God is not listening to our prayers. However, the Bible teaches us that God is always working for our good, even when we cannot see it (Romans 8:28). We must learn to trust Him, even when we do not understand why things are happening. We must also remember that our lives are not our own, but are part of a larger plan that God is working out in the world (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Ultimately, God's sovereignty and love are not mutually exclusive, but are intertwined in a way that is beyond our comprehension. As we navigate the challenges of life, we must learn to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when we do not understand why things are happening to us.
