Discovering a New Sense of Purpose

As we navigate through life, it's natural to question our purpose and direction. The Bible reminds us that our purpose is rooted in our relationship with God, and that He desires for us to enjoy Him and take joy in Him (Psalm 37:4). However, when we focus on our own interests and desires, we may find that our sense of purpose is misguided or incomplete. This is because our purpose in life is not found in achieving a certain goal or outcome, but rather in living a life that is pleasing to God (2 Corinthians 5:9).

So, how can we discover a new sense of purpose? The Bible encourages us to focus on Jesus and to run the race with our eyes fixed on Him (Hebrews 12:1-2). As we do this, we'll begin to see that God's purpose for our life is not just a distant goal, but a present reality that He desires for us to experience. In fact, God's purpose is not just about achieving a specific outcome, but about enabling us to see Him at work in our lives, even in the midst of storms and challenges (Psalm 46:10). By keeping our commitments to God and focusing on Him, we'll begin to discern whether we're moving towards His purpose for our life.

Ultimately, our purpose in life is not about achieving personal happiness or fulfillment, but about living a life that is morally upright and pleasing to God. As the Bible reminds us, moral purpose and personal happiness are not always aligned, and our sense of purpose may be frustrated if we're relying on our own efforts to achieve happiness (Psalm 16:11). Instead, we should cultivate a sense of intimacy with God, allowing Him to fan into flame our existing desires and longings, and to meet our deepest human needs (Psalm 63:1-3). As we do this, we'll discover a new sense of purpose that is rooted in our relationship with God, and that brings us joy and fulfillment in the present moment.
