Understanding God's Abandonment

The question of why God abandoned us when we needed Him most is a deeply personal and emotional one. It's a question that can leave us feeling lost, confused, and even angry with God. But as we explore this question, it's essential to remember that God's abandonment is not a rejection of us, but rather a part of His larger plan to save us. Just as Jesus underwent incomprehensible suffering for us, so too can we expect to experience suffering in our lives. However, this suffering is not without purpose, but rather a means by which God can shape us into the image of Christ.

A New Perspective on Suffering

Prior to my own experience of suffering, I had a faulty theology of suffering. I believed that God loved me and had a wonderful plan for my life, and therefore, God would always heal me. But this perspective was simplistic and didn't account for the complexity of God's purposes. I now understand that God's purposes are not always to remove our suffering, but rather to use it to shape us and draw us closer to Himself. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This means that even in the midst of suffering, God is working everything out for our good.

Embracing God's Sovereignty

So, why does God abandon us when we need Him most? The answer lies in His sovereignty and His desire to save us. Just as Jesus was abandoned on the cross, so too can we expect to experience periods of abandonment in our lives. But this is not a rejection of us, but rather a part of God's plan to draw us closer to Himself. As the Bible says, "For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake" (Philippians 1:29). This means that our suffering is not in vain, but rather a means by which God can use us to bring glory to Himself. So, instead of asking why God abandoned us, we should be asking why God is using us in this way. And the answer is simple: because He loves us and wants to use us for His glory.
