The Importance of Hope in Christianity

In Christianity, hope is a fundamental aspect of the faith. It is a skill that develops over time and is a corporate venture that needs the reminders of the body of Christ. When we lose things we love, including our hopes and dreams, it can be tempting to kill hope altogether. However, this is a mistake. Hope is what gives life meaning and purpose. Without hope, we are left with a sense of despair and hopelessness. As the Bible says, "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" (Proverbs 13:12).

Building Hope on God

So, how can we keep hope when everything seems to be taken away? The answer is to build our hope on God. We need to look to Him and trust in His goodness and sovereignty. As the psalmist writes, "Look to Me, and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other" (Isaiah 45:22). When we put our hope in God, we can trust that He will see us through difficult times and that our dreams and desires will be fulfilled. This is not to say that everything will work out exactly as we want it to, but that God is working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28).

Practicing Hope

Practicing hope takes time and effort. It requires us to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even when things seem to be going wrong. It means being willing to take risks and step out in faith, even when we don't know what the outcome will be. As the Bible says, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). When we practice hope, we can experience the transformative power of God in our lives and find freedom from the burdens of our past. We can cry out to God for deliverance, walk in His ways, proclaim His truth, and find freedom from our past (Psalm 119:37). Ultimately, hope is not just a feeling or a sentiment, but a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith that gives us the courage to face the future with confidence and trust in God's goodness.
