Understanding God's Sovereignty and Suffering

God gave you the disability as a means to draw you closer to Himself and to increase obedience to His will. This is not to say that God delights in suffering, but rather that He uses it as a means to refine and purify us, much like gold is refined through fire (1 Peter 1:7). The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all creation, including our suffering. He is not bound by our prayers or actions, but rather, He works all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). This means that even in the midst of suffering, God is working to bring about His good purposes in our lives.

Faulty Theology and Suffering

The faulty theology of suffering mentioned earlier, which assumes that God wants to heal us simply because He loves us, is a misconception. This view implies that God's primary desire is to meet our physical needs, rather than to draw us closer to Himself. However, the Bible teaches that God's primary desire is to have a personal relationship with us, and that He uses suffering as a means to achieve this. When we pray for healing, we must not assume that God's will is bound by our prayers, but rather, we must trust that He is working all things together for our good.

God's Sovereign Will

It is essential to understand that God's sovereign will is not limited by our prayers or actions. He is not obligated to respond to our requests in the way we desire. Instead, He works according to His own purposes and timing. This means that even when we pray for healing, God may choose not to grant it, not because He is unwilling, but because He has a greater purpose in store for us. As the psalmist says, "It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes" (Psalm 119:71). Our response to suffering should be one of trust and obedience, knowing that God is working all things together for our good.
