The Future of Your Children

As a parent, it's natural to worry about what will happen to your children after you're gone. Will they follow in your footsteps, or will they forge their own paths? The Bible reminds us that our children are a gift from God, and that we are called to raise them up to know and follow Him. (Psalm 127:3-5) As they grow and mature, it's essential to parent them towards healthy independence, allowing them to individuate and become their own people. This means giving them the space to make their own decisions, while still being available to guide and support them.

The Importance of Leaving a Legacy

When you're no longer physically present, your children will carry on the values and principles you've instilled in them. This is a precious gift, one that will outlast you and continue to shape their lives. By modeling a strong, loving relationship with your spouse and living out your faith in front of your children, you're giving them a foundation that will serve them well throughout their lives. As the apostle Paul wrote, "What you have taught them will be a blessing to them, and they will be blessed because of what you have taught them." (2 Timothy 2:2)

Continuing to Influence Your Children's Lives

Even after your children have left the nest, they are still your children, and your prayers will always have impact in their lives. You may no longer be able to tell them what to do, but you can certainly declare your love and support for them. Your conversations can still revolve around Jesus, and you can continue to encourage them to follow Him. As the Bible says, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) By living out your faith and being a source of love and support, you can continue to influence your children's lives long after they're gone.
