Your Question:

Can I still be a good person if I'm not a good parent?

Answer:

As a pastor and a father of two, I've come to realize that being a good parent is not a guarantee of being a good person. While being a good parent is certainly a vital part of being a good person, it's not the only factor. In fact, I've seen many people who are not good parents, but are still good people. This is because being a good person is not solely defined by one's parenting abilities, but by one's character, values, and relationship with God.

As I've reflected on my own parenting journey, I've come to understand that I've made my share of mistakes. There have been times when I've reacted out of fear instead of wisdom, and I've wished I had known what I didn't know at the time. But despite these mistakes, I've tried to be a good person by being a good steward of my family, and by seeking to honor God in all that I do. I believe that this is what being a good person is all about - being a good steward of the gifts and responsibilities God has given us, and seeking to honor Him in all that we do.

Ultimately, being a good person is not about being a perfect parent, but about being a person who is surrendered to God and seeking to live a life that honors Him. As the Bible says, "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4). This is a command to parents, but it's also a reminder that our parenting is not the sole measure of our goodness as people. Rather, it's a part of our overall relationship with God and our desire to live a life that honors Him.
