Understanding the Nature of Testing by God

When we find ourselves facing difficult circumstances and questioning why God is testing us, it's essential to remember that God is the sovereign Lord who has the right to do anything He wants. The story of Job serves as a prime example of this truth. Despite his complaints and questions, Job ultimately accepted the testing, recognizing that God was refining him like gold (Job 23:10). This passage reminds us that we should not test God, but rather, trust Him in the midst of trials. We must bind our thoughts to the Word of God and not give the enemy a seat at our table, as this can lead to unnecessary testing and struggles.

Recognizing the Purpose of Testing

The purpose of testing is not to see if we can endure, but to reveal our faith and trust in God. When we face trials, we have a choice to make: will we trust in God or doubt Him? Our actions and attitudes reveal our true faith. Jesus faced numerous tests, including hunger and temptation, but He responded with confidence and faith, quoting Scripture to counter the Tempter's lies. As believers, we must be prepared to give answers from the Bible when we face testing, just as Jesus did. Our faith is not in our ability to pass the test, but in our confidence in Jesus and His promise to be with us in all circumstances.

Embracing Trust and Surrender

Ultimately, the question of why God tests us is a matter of trust and surrender. We must trust that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28) and surrender our will to His. When we do, we can experience the peace and comfort that comes from knowing that God is in control. As the psalmist says, "When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you. All you may need He will provide, God will take care of you" (Psalm 91:14-15). We can trust that God will not let us be tested more than we can stand and will make a way out so that we can bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13). By embracing trust and surrender, we can navigate the tests of life with confidence and faith, knowing that God is always with us.
