Understanding God's Sovereignty in Testing

When we ask why God has to test us, we are essentially questioning His sovereignty. We might feel that He is being unfair or that we are being pushed beyond our limits. However, it is essential to remember that God is the One Who created the universe and everything in it, including us. He is the Sovereign God, and His ways are not our ways. His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). As Job says, "Who are we to test God and question Him?" (Job 41:11). We must recognize that God's ways are higher than ours, and we cannot fully comprehend His purposes.

The Purpose of Testing

The purpose of testing is not to make us jump through hoops or to prove our worthiness to God. Rather, it is to help us grow in our faith and to demonstrate our trust in Him. As the Bible says, "The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, and the one who is upright in their ways He will make shine" (Psalm 11:5). Testing is a way for God to refine us, to purify our hearts, and to make us more like Christ. It is a way for us to prove what the will of God is (Romans 12:2). Through testing, we can learn to rely on God's strength, not our own, and to trust in His goodness, even when things don't make sense.

The Assurance of God's Presence

In the midst of testing, it is essential to remember that God is with us. He will not let us be tested more than we can stand (1 Corinthians 10:13). He will make a way out so that we can bear it. We can trust Him, even when we don't understand what is happening. As the psalmist says, "When dangers fierce your path assail, God will take care of you" (Psalm 91:3). We can trust in His love, His mercy, and His goodness. We can be confident that He will not abandon us, but will always be with us, even in the midst of testing. Ultimately, the test is not about us, but about our trust in God. Will we trust Him, even when things don't make sense? Will we surrender to His sovereignty, and allow Him to refine us, to purify our hearts, and to make us more like Christ? The choice is ours.
