What if I'm not good enough for my community?
In a community where we live, we are not only judged by our actions but also by our attitudes. Our attitudes can either build up or tear down the community. Proverbs 14:34 says, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people." This means that our actions and attitudes have consequences for the community around us. If we choose to act righteously and display kindness, compassion, and love, we will build up the community. On the other hand, if we choose to act wickedly and display hatred, violence, and deceit, we will tear down the community.
As a law enforcement officer, you may be tempted to focus on the "bigger picture" and neglect the smaller, more vulnerable members of your community. However, Jesus teaches us that the community is not just about the well-educated, wealthy, or intelligent members. He says, "My community is not just for the righteous, but for the broken, the poor, and the marginalized" (Luke 14:12-14). This means that we must prioritize building up the community by showing love, kindness, and compassion to all members, regardless of their background or status.
If you find yourself struggling with feelings of bitterness, anger, or hatred towards others, it may be a sign that you need to re-evaluate your attitude and actions. Proverbs 14:21 says, "He who despises his neighbor sins, but he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he." This means that we must choose to act with mercy, kindness, and compassion towards others, even when it's difficult. By doing so, we will build up the community and create a more harmonious and loving environment for all. As Lauren Winner says, "If you are a twenty-six-year-old who has just moved across the country for grad school, the role your community can play in your life is to help you live truthfully upon what the truth is." By choosing to act righteously and display love, kindness, and compassion, we will create a community that reflects God's character and brings glory to Him.
