Can I still find joy in life with a permanent disability?

The Bible teaches that joy is a deep and abiding presence in our lives, one that can even coexist with suffering and depression (Ps. 126:1-2). Joy is not the opposite of depression, but rather a rock that stands firm, regardless of our circumstances. This means that even with a permanent disability, it is possible to experience joy. In fact, many people with disabilities have reported feeling happy and fulfilled despite their physical limitations.

While it may seem counterintuitive, joy is not something that we find in our circumstances, but rather in our relationship with God. As the psalmist wrote, "You will make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (Ps. 16:11). This means that even in the midst of suffering, we can find joy and happiness in our relationship with God. Furthermore, the Bible teaches that God's presence is always available to us, and that He can bring joy to our lives even in the midst of suffering.

In fact, the Bible tells us that people with disabilities can still find joy and happiness in life. For example, the 23rd Psalm-Remix says, "Though I cannot walk, and I am confined to a wheelchair; Though half my face is paralyzed, and I cannot even smile; Though I am extremely impaired, and I cannot take care of my baby; Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be glad in God my Savior" (Ps. 23:1-6). This psalm reminds us that even in the midst of great suffering, we can still find joy and happiness in our relationship with God. Therefore, it is possible to find joy in life with a permanent disability. Joy is not something that is dependent on our circumstances, but rather on our relationship with God. As we seek to know God and follow Him, we can experience joy and happiness, even in the midst of suffering.
