Lying affects your relationship with God in several ways. Firstly, it denies the character of God who is truth (Heb 6:18) and whose word embodies truth (Jn 17:17). Jesus said, I am ... the truth (Jn 14:6)there is nothing false in him. The Comforter is called the Spirit of truth (Jn 16:13). When we lie, we are, in essence, saying that God is not truthful or that His word is not trustworthy. This is a fundamental attack on the character of God and can lead to a breakdown in our relationship with Him.

Secondly, lying can lead to self-deception and a false sense of security. When we lie, we may feel like we are covering up our mistakes or hiding our true nature, but in reality, we are only fooling ourselves. The Bible warns that a lying tongue is an abomination to the Lord (Prov 12:17) and that a false witness will not go unpunished (Prov 19:5). When we lie, we are not only hurting ourselves but also our relationship with God, who is truth and who desires a personal and intimate relationship with us.

Lastly, lying can lead to a diminished sense of God's glory and a diminished sense of our own character. When we lie, we are dishonoring God and diminishing His glory, for we, as those created in God's image and created for the purpose of reflecting His character, are not living up to our full potential. We are also diminishing our own character, as lying destroys oneself, one's relationships, and one's connection to God. In order to maintain a healthy and intimate relationship with God, we must be truthful and honest in all our interactions, both with Him and with others. By doing so, we can experience a deeper sense of connection and intimacy with God, and we can reflect His character more accurately in our lives.
