Your Question:
can i still have a sense of control when everything feels out of control?
Answer:
My friend, I've learned that having a sense of control when everything feels out of control is indeed possible. As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with this very issue, but I believe it starts with understanding that we're not in control. We can't control our spiritual lives, and that's actually a liberating truth. When we intentionally design our lives to give Jesus free rein over our formation, a whole new level of joy becomes available. But how do we get self-control, you ask? Well, I believe it's a skill that's learned by contemplating a person, in this case, Jesus Christ. It's not about trying to control our desires or our circumstances, but rather about being thoughtful and careful in our actions and decisions. We must arrange our days so that we're experiencing deep contentment, joy, and confidence in our everyday life with God. This means developing a plan with the help of others that's concrete and Christ-centered. As I reflect on my own life, I realize that self-control is not about being in control, but rather about being controlled by God. It's about saying no to sinful desires, even when it hurts, and allowing God to rule my life. When I'm tempted to give in to my desires, I remind myself that I'm not in control, and that God has a better plan for me. It's a daily struggle, but with God's help, I've learned to say no to sinful desires and say yes to His will.
