God's Purpose in Creating Humans

God created humans because He is love and desired a being designed on His own pattern so that He could love that creature and be freely loved in return. Humans were made in the image and likeness of God, and this direct clue to the nature of God ought to emerge from a study of humans. God's creation was for definite purposes, including knowing, loving, and obeying Him, and living in harmony with other humans.

The Nature of Humans

As humans, we have the ability to reason, make moral choices, and understand the consequences of our actions. This is because we are made in the image of God. Our purpose is to cultivate and develop the world and glorify God thereby. We were created to have dominion over the earth, and to be fruitful and multiply. God's creation of humans was not an accident, but a deliberate act with a purpose.

The Human Predicament

Humans rejected God's loving approach, and as a result, death came upon them. However, God did not destroy humans; instead, He redeemed them through Jesus Christ. God's creation of humans was not a necessity, but a choice. He could have created the universe without humans, but it was better to create beings capable of fellowship with and obedience to Him, even in the face of temptations to do otherwise. This purpose is rooted in God's sovereignty and love.
