Biblical Answer

The Bible teaches us that forgiveness is not an event, but a process. In Matthew 18:21-22, Jesus responds to Peter's question about how many times he should forgive his brother who sins against him. Jesus says, "Seventy-seven times." This answer is not meant to be taken literally, but rather as a way of saying that we should forgive our brother as many times as it takes for him to repent and make things right. Forgiveness is a choice that we make, and it is not based on what feels good at the moment, but rather on what God asks us to do.

When we forgive someone, we are not saying that what they did is okay, but rather that we are trusting God to be the God of justice. We are saying, "Father, I trust that you will handle this situation and bring justice to the one who has wronged me." Forgiveness does not justify the other person's actions, but rather makes us free from the burden of holding onto anger and resentment. In Psalm 103:12, it says, "As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." This means that God removes our sins from us, and we should do the same for others.

Forgiveness is not always easy, and it may take time and effort to forgive someone who has wronged us. But it is a crucial part of living a life that reflects Christian values and teachings. In Luke 6:27-36, Jesus teaches us to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us. Forgiveness is a key part of this teaching, and it is something that we should strive for every day. When we forgive others, we are not only freeing ourselves from the burden of anger and resentment, but we are also glorifying God and making him famous in the world. As Jesus says in Matthew 6:14-15, "If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." This means that forgiveness is not just a good idea, but a necessary part of our relationship with God.
